Mercy House is a local non-profit that provides shelter for families with children and other programs that help to combat poverty and homelessness in our community. By providing comprehensive, trauma informed supportive services, Mercy House empowers their clients to build a better future for themselves and their children. Utilizing a strengths based approach, they assist in stabilizing lives, finding employment, and ultimately restoring families to long term housing.
Mercy House began raising funds in early 2023 for their shelter play space, which has served hundreds of children for the last two decades. The non-profit strives to provide respect and decency for families in their shelter, noting, „It has always been our calling, and nowhere is that more important than in the lives of our children“. While experiencing homelessness can be traumatic, Mercy House aims to make each child feel ‚at home‘ even when they don‘t have one of their own. The proposed Play Space is a catalyst for community, and it provides a sense of normalcy for the residents that find themselves needing Mercy House services.
Construction on this project began in June 2023 with the demolition of the existing, dilapidated structure and was fully completed in spring 2025.
