Monteverde Engineering partnered with Mather Architects and Harman Construction to provide Civil and Structural engineering and Land Planning for a new 25,835 sf two-story Public Works Administration Building for the City of Harrisonburg. This project is expected to be completed in the Summer of 2024. Site challenges included the proposed location of the new facility being located within the 100-year flood plain, the phasing of the demolition and replacement of the existing administrative office building with a new parking lot to serve the new structure, and existing topography challenges associated with the functional needs of the new building. Monteverde provided a structural design that included a combination of conventional steel and pre-engineered wood roof trusses to meet the city’s requirements of durability, sustainability, and cost effectiveness, as well as to accommodate proposed solar panels on the roof structure.
